Hey friend,
I love money conversations; they can bring life-changing awareness about what to do ... and not do. One topic that comes up is debt consolidation.
Debt consolidation companies are everywhere, and if you’ve ever thought, “Maybe that’s my way out,” you’re not alone. But here’s the truth: I can’t stand them. And here’s why you shouldn’t lean on them, either.
3 Reasons Debt Consolidation Companies Don’t Work (and Hurt More Than They Help):
1. They don’t solve the root problem.
Debt consolidation may shuffle your bills into one neat payment, but it doesn’t change spending habits, bring clarity, or create a plan. Without those, the cycle usually continues—and sometimes even gets worse.
2. They cost you more in the long run.
Behind all the shiny promises are hidden fees, higher interest stretched over more years, and terms designed to keep you in debt longer. Proverbs 22:7 reminds us: “The borrower is slave to the lender.” Sadly, these companies profit by keeping people in that very bondage.
3. They can damage your credit and peace of mind.
Many families hand over control to these companies, only to discover late payments reported, extra fees added, and no real freedom at the end of the road. What starts as hope often turns into disappointment and regret.
Here’s the better way—one that actually builds freedom:
- Take an honest look at your budget.
- Tackle debt one small victory at a time (the snowball method works wonders).
- Invite God into the process—pray for wisdom, contentment, and perseverance.
- Stay connected to an encouraging community that lifts you up when the road feels long.
Friend, debt-free living may not always feel easy, but it is absolutely doable. You were created to walk in freedom—not hand it over to a company profiting off your stress.
If this speaks to you, know that you’re not stuck and you’re definitely not alone. Sometimes the narrow path is the one that leads to true financial freedom and lasting peace.
Cheers,
Jenny 🌺
