The hidden cost of convenience πŸ’Έ

Pursuing true North

Hi friend,

It's 5:30 PM. The fridge is uninspiring. The delivery app is one tap away. And within three taps, the "problem" is solved.

We tell ourselves we're buying time. And honestly? Sometimes we are. But I've been sitting with this lately - the hidden trade-off that never shows up on the receipt.

Because in the economy of a life well-lived, convenience is rarely a free lunch.

"Be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity." Ephesians 5:15–16

That verse has been ringing in my ears. Making the most of every opportunity isn't just about big, dramatic decisions. It's the small, daily ones too.

The two sides of the coin

When we outsource the "doing" to save time, it's worth a quick look at what else we're handing over:

The financial friction. Small convenience wins; the pre-cut fruit, the rush shipping, the delivery fee, they act like a slow leak in a tire. You might not feel it on mile one, but it quietly affects your ability to steer toward your bigger goals. That $8 here and $15 there? It adds up faster than you think.

The experience gap. There is a specific kind of True North magic found in the process. When we pay to skip the effort, we sometimes accidentally skip the decompression, the skill-building, or the quiet satisfaction of doing a thing ourselves. The chopping, the walking, the making -those can be gifts disguised as inconvenience.

Finding your "worth it" threshold

I'm not suggesting we all churn our own butter. (Though if that's your thing - respect.) The goal isn't to make life harder. It's to make it more intentional.

This week, before you hit "Order" or "Buy Now," try asking yourself one honest question:

"Am I buying time for something that matters - or am I just avoiding the discomfort of being present?"

If that $15 convenience fee buys you an extra hour of bedtime stories or a much-needed workout, that's a win. Spend it gladly.

But if it's buying you an extra hour of mindless scrolling? You might be trading your hard-earned money for a hollow return.

This week's challenge

Pick one "convenient" habit and trade it for the manual version. Chop the vegetables. Walk to the store instead of ordering in. Make the thing from scratch.

Feel the friction. Embrace the process. Notice if the True North version of your day feels a little brighter - and maybe a little more like you.

I'd love to hear what you swap out. Hit reply and tell me! πŸ‘‡

P.S. The convenience "tax" is real, but it's also fixable - and you don't have to overhaul everything at once. One small swap this week is enough to get your momentum going. You've got this.

P.P.S. Know someone who's been feeling the pinch but can't quite figure out where it's going? Forward this their way. Sometimes all it takes is one honest question to shift everything.

See you next week!
