Planting Joy, Memories, and a Budget-Friendly Summer 🌸

Pursuing true North

Hello, wonderful friends! 🌼

First of all, a huge thank you for all your lovely, well wishes for my son's graduation and Mother's Day! Your kindness truly warms my heart. This week, I'm catching up on all the things life throws our way, but I wanted to take a moment to share some thoughts with you.

This season has been a joyous one, filled with memorable moments, but—let's be real—there have been a few bumps along the way too. Such is life, right?

Speaking of seasons, depending on where you are, you might be diving deep into garden planting right now—or perhaps you’re already ahead of the game. To those overachievers, I say, I'm never done planting myself, haha! But seriously, if planting new flowers or starting a garden is on your to-do list, be cautious not to let excitement overshadow your budget. It’s surprisingly easy to overindulge in plants, especially if you’re buying them fully grown instead of seeds.

This takes me back to fond memories with my mother-in-law, who had a green thumb and loved visiting a place called the Garden Barn every Wednesday for Old-timers Discount Day. Rest her soul, her passion for plants was unmatchable. Reflecting on those days, I realized how overspending—even on seemingly innocent delights—can strain your wallet and sometimes your marriage. So, do yourself a favor and plan your garden budget before heading to the nursery. And consider some fun alternatives like plant swaps or seed exchanges with friends, especially if you have an abundance of certain plants. Believe it or not, it’s a real thing, and a wonderful way to diversify without overspending!

On the topic of wise spending, I can't resist bringing money into the conversation as usual. It's the perfect time to save for homeschool curricula or school supplies as the back-to-school season will sneak up before we know it.

Looking ahead to June, remember to include Father's Day gifts, birthdays, graduation gifts, and even farmer’s market trips in your budget. Planning these in advance can help you enjoy these events without the financial worry.

Thank you for being part of my journey. Let’s keep planting seeds of joy and financial wisdom together!

Cheering for you always,

Jenny Cioto 🎉
