The Luck Myth

Every March, we're surrounded by four-leaf clovers and the promise that maybe this will be the year something just falls into place.

I used to believe that, honestly. I thought people who were "good with money" just got lucky — they married the right person, inherited something, or avoided the hard stuff I was living through. Meanwhile, I was drowning in consumer debt, raising five kids, and wondering when my break was coming.

Spoiler: it didn't come. I had to build it.

Here's what I've learned coaching families through real financial transformation: the people who win with money aren't luckier than you. They just have systems you haven't seen yet.

They have a budget they actually use. They have a plan for when things go sideways (and things always go sideways). They've decided — on purpose — where their money is going before the month begins.

Proverbs 21:5 says "The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance." Not the plans of the lucky. The plans of the diligent.

That's the whole thing right there.

So this St. Patrick's Day, skip the lucky charm. Instead, ask yourself one question: Do I have a plan, or am I just hoping?
