Hey friend,
β
Let's talk about stinking thinking. (Say that five times fast. I'll wait.)
Here's a question I want you to actually sit with instead of skimming past: what is your relationship with money?
Now before you write back "Jenny, money isn't a person, I don't have a relationship with it," I hear you. But stick with me, because money has a sneaky way of stirring up real feelings in us, even though it's just paper. Metal. Numbers on a screen.
β
Here's the analogy I love using: money is a tool. Think of it like a hammer.
A hammer doesn't have emotions. It's not sitting in your toolbox plotting against you. It doesn't care if you use it to build a birdhouse, a mansion, or tear something down. It's just a hammer. But you have feelings about that hammer. Maybe you pick it up and get genuinely excited, ooh, new project, let's go. Or maybe the second your hand touches the handle, all you can think about is the time you smashed your thumb and swore off carpentry forever.
So really think about it. When money conversations come up, in your house, at work, in your own head, are you talking negatively or positively? Is it "ugh, we can't afford that" on repeat, or is it "let's figure out how we make that happen"? Are you gripping the handle white-knuckled, bracing for the thumb smash, or are you actually excited to pick the thing up and build something?
This matters more than we give it credit for. That stinking thinking, the scripts running in the background, the flinch, the dread, the "I'm just not good with money" story we've told ourselves since we were twelve, is often exactly what's standing between us and the goals we say we want. We don't fail to reach our goals because we lack the tools. We stall out because of what we believe about the tools.
β
This is exactly the kind of thing my clients have uncovered. We don't just talk about how much you are or aren't putting in savings. Itβs not just "here's a budget spreadsheet," but "here's why you flinch every time you open your banking app." Because once you see it, you can actually do something about it.
β
So, hammer in hand. New project, or old thumb injury? I'd love to know. Hit reply and tell me.
β
And if you're ready to stop white-knuckling it and start actually building something with your money, I've got a place for you to do exactly that.
